SoCal Nature Kids: LAND

from $40.00

The Southern California Nature Kids family science curriculum enables families to explore and study local nature together through delightful picture books, hands-on activities, nature journaling, neighborhood nature walks and at-home nature study, local animal study, and suggested field trips around Southern California.

Intended for families living in Southern California with children in Kindergarten - 5th grade, Southern California Nature Kids can enable any family to explore and enjoy Southern California nature together, and can also serve as a homeschool science curriculum. Older/younger siblings can join in too!

Written by a local homeschooling mom, 132 pages of lessons are provided for your family’s enjoyment and education.

The curriculum includes 12 lessons devoted entirely to Southern California nature topics related to land, including ecosystems like deserts and forests, earthquakes, energy, Native People of California, mapmaking, urban nature, and more!

Each lesson can be completed as a family in 1-3 weeks and includes:

  • An introductory lesson/activity written by me teaching you about that topic and how it relates specifically to Southern California

  • Local field trip ideas focused on different SoCal regions: LA County, Orange County, San Diego County, and the Inland Empire (Riverside/San Bernardino County)… plus some ideas if you live in Santa Barbara, Ventura, or Imperial County.

  • 8-10 beautiful picture book recommendations

  • a hands-on activity like recipes, art projects, and pretend play ideas

  • A simple at-home outdoor activity that can be done around your home (whether you live in an apartment or have a yard, there are options for both!)

  • A local animal to study

  • A quiet moment to learn about in the book Slow Down

  • A nature journaling prompt

And more!

It’s great for homeschoolers, but also can be used by any family looking to have fun together in nature and learn more about what’s right outside! Designed for children Kindergarten through Grade 5, it can be adapted for older/younger kids, and done as a family.

What's the difference between digital and printed?

  • digital: PDF digital download available instantly upon purchase

  • printed: 1 spiral-bound, full-color curriculum guide. 138 pages with glossy cover, plus the digital download (so you can get started now!)
